Power 101

Electricity is the only major commodity that must be produced and consumed in the same instant. Every market design on earth is a different answer to that one problem.

How the book is built

Parts One and Two are universal: the physics, then the mechanics of how a price gets made. Part Three teaches the three design choices every market makes. Only then do the regions arrive, as worked examples of choices the reader already understands. That ordering is deliberate, because geography is a poor primary split: roughly 30% of US load sits in no wholesale market at all, Singapore is nodal like PJM, and Australia is energy-only like Texas.
